Over the New Year period, David & I undertook a four-day walk from Mt Hotham to the Bogong High Plains. The weather on the first day was very cold – 2 C degreees but on the third day it got to a very warm 27C degrees.
We began by following the Brandy Creek Fire Trail down to the Cobungra River and then had a climb of about 500m up Palings Spur to Youngs Spur on the southern edge of the high plains. After a night near Youngs Hut, we walked acros the plains to Mt Jim and Tawonga Huts. On the second night we stayed at Weston’s Hut. Day three saw us dropping down to the Cobungra River again which we followed along Dungeys Track over Cobungra Gap and then across Swindlers Gap. We spent New Year’s Eve camped in a beautiful area at the junction of Swindlers Creek and the Cobumngra River. On our final day, we retraced our steps back to the Brandy Creek Fire Trail and up the long spur where we had left our car at the Mt Hotham Road.
