A Circuit of Tasmania

April 2010 saw us travelling around Tasmania with a group of friends from our church in a little 25 seater bus, with me as the driver.

It is always interesting to visit the ‘Island State’ and it’s certainly very scenic. Some if the stand out memories of this trip are:

• The collection of Japanese Snow Monkeys in the City Park in Launceston.
• Wonderful cheeses at Pyengana
• Beautiful sweeping beaches at Freycenet Peninsular.
• The interesting but very morbid penal history of Port Arthur
• Dinner with friends Ris and Steve at one of the first class restaurants around the waterfront in Hobart.
• Scenic waterfalls at places such as Liffey Falls and Russell Falls.
• Colourful fungi in the dark Myrtle Beech rain forests where you also find dozens of shades of green when you pause to examine the environment around you.
• The stark, bare hills around the mining town of Queenstown.
• Cradle Mountain with the view across Dove Lake and memories of numerous bushwalking trips.
• A dawn service at Devonport on Anzac Day where I was expecting two men and a dog to attend, but I found a crowd of about 2000 people.
• The little railway museum at Don River, near Devonport, where you can wander around the yards and through the workshops to experience fascinating pieces of old machinery.
• Historic houses such as Entally House near Launceston with it old furniture, pretty gardens and old buildings.

All of these things along with historic towns and convict built bridges an buildings make Tasmania a wonderful place to visit and explore.
