One of the more sobering and thought provoking of places is the Peace Park at Hiroshima. Siuated right on ‘Ground Zero’ it has this shrine to those who died and suffered terrific burns and ongoing radiation sickness.
The nearby museum has many mementos such as a human shadow from a person sitting on some stone steps. Their body sheltered that area from the fireball when the bomb exploded. Other exhibits show molten roof tiles, twisted girders and photos of the devastation.
The memorial makes no political statement – just a display of the horrific impact of nuclear war.
